Bernie:
I endorsed you early. I voted for you in Texas. I got other people to vote for you in Texas. I gave money to you. I continued to endorse you, up until you lost California and the mini-Tuesday. And then, I accepted the fact that you would not be the nominee, and I gave my support to Clinton.
But even after I gave up, I defended your right to take this fight to the convention. I recognized — as other do — that there was a small chance that Clinton or one of her top aides would be indicted, and it made sense for you to keep running through the convention. Doing so served a purpose: It gave you the leg up for the nomination, in the event that Clinton’s campaign suffered this epic meltdown. Moreover, you had the right to take your case the the super-delegates, on the off chance that the HRC campaign failed to catch fire, and they were looking for an alternate. I didn’t think these would happen (and I made it clear I didn’t think so), but you had the right, and it made sense.
But now….now the FBI says no Email indictment. This’ll be talked about a little bit for the next week, but then it will be gone (its hard to make a story out of “no indictment,” because, in two words, the story is summarized). Insiders have known this for about a month, which is why former President Clinton felt confident in meeting with Attorney General Lynch at the airport. The chance of anything stopping the Clinton train at this point are limited to things which are unthinkable — her suffering a medical crisis of a permanent nature, or something of a similar magnitude.
At this point, you need to recognize that your campaign no longer serves the things you support. Yes, you can argue all you want about the party platform — fighting the TPP is good politics, as is raising the minimum wage and fighting for unions — but let’s face it, the platform has limits in affecting the campaign, and its your campaign that is holding you back. 80% of your followers have now endorsed Clinton.
In sum, you are short delegates and while you have not been mathematically eliminated from winning a “contested convention” the chance of actually prevailing is vanishingly small. Please, suspend your campaign and endorse Hilary. The continued fight is hurting the people who placed their faith in you, and while it is hard, it is better to accept this now than face oblivion.
Please: concede, and endorse the nominee.
