So earlier today, I was reading a dkos blog with attached comments, and as I have done often before, and as many others do, I was moved to respond to another’s comment.
I later received a message from the site administrators telling me my comment was hidden because the comment violated site rules.
So I would like to know what site rules I violated. My comment did not advocate violence, did not insult anyone, did not express bigotry, did not doxx anyone, did not “thread-jack”, was not stalking, was not spam, did not violate copyright, did not engage in CT, nor advocate for a third party. As I read them, my comment was fully in compliance with site rules.
if i am to avoid violating site in the future, it is important that I receive specific feedback on exactly what site rule this comment violated. Without such feedback, I am likely to make a similar violation in the future.
Two readers responded to my comment saying that my 48% statistic was wrong, and that 43% of democratic primary voters voted for Sanders. According to Real Clear Politics, 43.2% of democratic party voters voted for Sanders. Allow me to acknowledge and apologize for my error: I am happy to have my error identified, and am happy to use this corrected information in making my point:
“Along with 43% of democratic primary voters who voted for Sanders and his ideas for improving government.
Say “hello” to more voters leaving the democratic party.”
Somehow, I do not think those who objected to my original comment are going to like the corrected version any better.
Moreover, the site rules do not say that comments that contain errors will be hidden. Clearly making a factual error is no impediment whatsoever for thousands of comments that appear here every day.
What I think happened is that some readers felt annoyed, not by my erroneous statistic, but by the point of my comment that Sanders enjoyed a great deal of support among democratic primary voters, and felt that alone was reason enough to “hide-rate” the comment. I must say that I personally have little sympathy for those who feel that censorship is the proper response to reading something they don’t like.
Please, site administrators, let me know what site rule I violated, or tell me why my comment was hidden. If the site administrators cannot identify a site rule violation on my part, the administrators should restore the original comment to normal status.
I should also add that it is strange to me that the site administrators will send me a notice that my comment has been hidden, but not also include any information about how I can contact the site administrators to dispute such an action or defend myself, make a correction, or make an apology.
