So I was watching the Prime Time Olympics on Wednesday and was reflecting on what I had seen since the opening ceremonies. The whole week so far had been amazing! The opening ceremonies were lovely and realizing there were very little in the way of props and that the images we saw were projections, I was entranced by the fact that what made the dancers look like they were climbing the buildings was some of the best choreography I have ever experienced.
Then came the Parade of Nations. Every time I see that I feel the joy. hope.and energy from the men and women athletes. To see all these nations gathered together bringing the best of their athletes, showing their patriotism and pride always touches something deep inside of me. A vision of the peace we all hope for as these athletes bring their skills and talents for the world to see. The Olympic Flame was a kaleidoscopic combination of fire and mirrors. What a night that was!
Then the games started and from the first, the American athletes took the lead. Virginia Thrasher won the gold medal for shooting started off our medal count and also won the first medal of the Olympcs. It cracked me up when I told my grandson about it and his answer was, “Well duh!” He knows that something positive has to come out of all the guns in this country so what better way for the Americans to start their march for victory. Does that not say America to the rest of the world with all our worship of guns?
Mr. Trump, you call us a nation of losers. You say that we are no longer great. So explain, please, why we are so successful in Rio. Is this just a fluke or is it, maybe a symbol of America’s qualities at our best. I think it is you, Donald that is the loser and you are a mediocre scam artist that has never accomplished anything great. I feel sorry for your blindness to all the wonders that America has to offers. So, while I continue to watch and enjoy the Olympics, you just sit on your cheesy and vulgar golden throne and steep in you bitterness, lies and hate. In your face Mr. Trump!
