With 29 electoral votes, Florida is the largest of the states usually regarded as “swing states” in a presidential election. It’s worth more than Pennsylvania and Iowa together. Considering the state of the current polls, Hillary Clinton can actually win the White House without Florida.
But Donald Trump can’t. So Trump has actually opened that rarest thing—a campaign office.
A new field office for Donald Trump’s campaign to win Florida has been quietly readied in Orlando. …
Well … that’s one. Of course, it’s not exactly a hub of activity.
It was unoccupied and locked Friday, but posters are taped to the front windows, chairs are neatly arranged, and packages of bottled water and snack chips, still wrapped in plastic, wait on a side table.
Chips. They have chips. But they don’t really need volunteers on the phones, or people in the field. Because they have rallies.
“His rallies are going to continue to be his staple, but it’s not all we’re doing,” [Senior Trump adviser] Giorno said. “The rallies allow someone with his stature and his celebrity to do a more traditional type of retail politicking. It’s equivalent to 40,000 door-knocks.”
See? Trump doesn’t need outreach, voter contact, transportation to the polls … any of that nonsense. That ground game stuff is so behind the times.
“I’m not big on bricks and mortar and office spaces because as you can see we have a very unique kind of campaign,” Giorno said. …
“This is the best type of outreach you can possibly have,” Giorno said of the rallies. “He’s touching over 40,000 people in two days.
Everyone in Florida: Please take a look at the Donald Trump doll. Now, can you tell me where he touched you?
