This is the first time in my long voting life that I didn’t want to go to the polls. Just meh. But I mustered up all the energy I had and drove there at 11 am. I was number 57 so you can see what crappy turn out there is. I live in Oakland County, which is suburban Detroit.
This primary should have been held with the MI presidential primary last Spring. But why do something as efficient and frugal as that? This is Michigan. We have a voter I.D. law for all those voters swarming the polls. At least this time there was no computer with a card reader. Because at the presidential primary, the poll worker swiped my driver’s license with a reader. God knows over what server and how secure it was and what information they were looking for. This time they just looked at my driver’s license. I guess down ballot is just not that important. Also, the Democrats don’t run candidates in my neck of the woods for township positions. So no worries.
For this election, it’s not a closed primary except one has to vote either the republican side or the Democratic side of the ballot. I started to feel better when I wrote in the name of the Democrat on the republican ballot. The ballot reading machine accepted my ballot with the write in (a circle to color was provided on the write in line) so I assume that was acceptable.
Apparently, there is some kind of skirmish going on in the Oakland County republican party because yesterday I received a robo call from some group that refers to constitutional conservatives and that Klint Kesto, the local rep, is trying to purge their delegates from the county party. All I know is the county party is reducing the number of delegates and this constitution conservative faction is very upset about it. I may actually get interesting.
I didn’t even hear crickets from the county Democratic party. No reminder, no mailers.
Meh.
