What do you know. Donald Trump is going to change up his usual African American voter outreach strategy of talking about black people in front of white audiences or tweeting about how people getting shot is an argument for voting Trump. Trump is planning a visit to Detroit to talk to the head of the only African American owned national Christian television network:
"Mr. Trump will answer questions that are relevant to the African American community such as education (including HBCUs [historically black colleges and universities]), unemployment, making our streets safe and creating better opportunities for all," [Trump surrogate Mark] Burns said. "He will then give an address to outline policies that will impact minorities and the disenfranchised in our country. Citizens around the country will see, as I've have [sic] seen, the heart and compassion Mr. Trump has for all Americans, which includes minority communities whose votes have been taken for granted for far too long."
When do you think they taught him what the acronym HBCU means, and what are the odds he remembers it come Saturday?
Don’t you love, though, the argument that communities of color are ready for Trump because their votes have been taken for granted? So now they’re going to vote for the guy who has actively campaigned against their interests until he realized that being widely seen as racist was a problem and started issuing pronouncements about how they were going to vote for him because their lives were miserable and filled with violence. But hey, he’s talking to a black person, so progress!
They might need to rewrite the definition of “too little, too late” to include a reference to this.
