Public Policy Polling surveys the presidential race in North Carolina as only PPP can, asking all the right questions and finding the crazy. Here's the serious part: Hillary Clinton has a narrow lead over Donald Trump for the first time since March. Very narrow—47/46 in a two-person race, 43-41 if you add in Gary Johnson (7 percent) and Jill Stein (2 percent).
Boding well for Clinton, "voters would prefer a continuation of the Obama administration to Trump's vision for the country, 50/45." Additionally, undecided voters in the Clinton/Trump head-to-head race prefer President Obama over Trump by a 33 point margin and really, really don't like Trump. His favorability rating among undecideds is 1/94. One percent view him favorably, 94 percent unfavorably. Clinton doesn't fare a lot better with this bloc, at a 2/75 favorability, but a 94 percent hate rate is pretty remarkable. Not as remarkable as the "cult-like" Trump followers and what they'll believe, however.
-69% of Trump voters think that if Hillary Clinton wins the election it will be because it was rigged, to only 16% who think it would be because she got more vote than Trump. More specifically 40% of Trump voters think that ACORN (which hasn't existed in years) will steal the election for Clinton. [...]
-48% of Trump voters think that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton deserve the blame for Humayun Khan's death to 16% who absolve them and 36% who aren't sure one way or the other (Obama was in the Illinois Legislature when it happened.)[...]
-Even though Trump ended up admitting it didn't exist 47% of his voters say they saw the video of Iran collecting 400 million dollars from the United States to only 46% who say they didn't see the video. [...]
-Trump said last week that Hillary Clinton is the devil, and 41% of Trump voters say they think she is indeed the devil to 42% who disagree with that sentiment and 17% who aren't sure one way or the other.
In the real world, zero percent of Clinton supporters in North Carolina believe she's the devil. Voters there don't like Vladimir Putin (he has a 9/63 favorability rating) and "by a 49 point margin they're less likely to vote for a candidate Russia is perceived to prefer for president, and by a 33 point margin they're less likely to vote for a candidate seen as friendly toward Russia." Fifty-eight percent of voters think Trump needs to release his tax returns. Fifty-four percent think his feud with the Khan family is inappropriate and 54 percent don't trust him with nuclear weapons.
There’s the real world, and then there’s Trumpland, where all but two Republican senators have chosen to live so far.
