Philadelphia Police officer, Ian Hans Lichtermann, stationed in Philadelphia’s 2nd police district in Northeast Philadelphia has been outed as a neo-nazi serving on the police force for the second time.
Last night, photos from a Black Lives Matter protest at the Democratic National Convention were uploaded Facebook (see below) and if you look at the tattoo on his left forearm, you’ll notice an eagle with it’s wings spread out and a caption that says “Fatherland.” The eagle on his forearm is known as the “partieadler eagle,” and it was a key symbol for Nazi controlled Germany.
In 2010, Lichtermann was outed as a member of the neo-nazi skinhead group “Blood and Honour.” He then left the Philadelphia Police Department in 2012 to serve as a private secutirty contractor in the Middle East. He then received a service award from the Philadelphia Police Department in 2014.
Photos of Lichtermann went viral last night and this morning as Philadelphia activists were tweeting at the Police Commissioner’s office asking about Lichtermann’s status with the Philadelphia Police Department and it gained the attention of music artist Talib Kweli.
Both the Philadelphia Police Department and Mayor Jim Kenney’s office were reached for a statement regarding the photographs of Ian Hans Lichtermann. Both offices are aware of the photos and are looking into the issue at hand, but both declined to comment on the topic.
