It is no surprise that Obamacare is failing in Tennessee. I guess the execs at Insurance companies don't know any working class people, as they did not realize how toxic the American low income diet is when combined with heavy drinking, smoking, drug use and bad attitude. Of course people who do not have the elite jobs that still carry insurance are pretty un healthy. The fundamental problem is that the Market is poorly suited to serve health care payment. Insurance companies compete as to who can receive premiums from the most healthy people and deny payment for many sick people as possible. THIS is the business model which allows for a Health insurance company to be profitable. Like national defense health care payment systems are best served by the Public sphere. Only a Single Payer system financed thru payroll and income taxes serve the purpose of providing for the public weal and being affordable. Perhaps it could be in the form of a Public option for those not covered by work insurance, but it would be better if health care coverage was dis connected from employment. Workers who consider their health care part of their compensation and therefore something they earned will have to get over the perceived hurt ( as they really are no worse off in absolute terms) of something they think of as something individually earned is given away freely but this happens in history. One must look beyond narrow self interest, no matter if it is difficult. This perception of loss if something one paid for is given ( access to health insurance) is important to recognize but it cannot be accommodated.
