(This is a repost of an earlier diary, including an updated link.)
Welcome to the “SOS List”! “SOS” stands for Secretary of State, the officials who oversee elections and how they are conducted in each state in our union.
In November, there will be 14 states with new laws that make it harder for people to vote. For a complete list and to see what these restrictions are, go to The Brennan Center at www.brennancenter.org/...
The last thing voters want is to go to the polls and be told that their name is not on the list or that they cannot cast a vote because they are at the wrong precinct or do not have acceptable ID. While voters may be given the chance to cast a “provisional ballot,” please note that provisional ballots may or may not be counted.
The following list is designed to give voters access to all the information they need about the voting process in their state.
Always have ID available when you vote, particularly if you are voting for the first time. States have different ID requirements—and some have now instituted stricter requirements saying voters must show a current photo ID in order to vote. In states where this applies, that information is noted.
For more detailed information on voter ID laws by state: ballotpedia.org/...
The 2016 General Election is on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Even if you think you are already registered and have the proper ID, please double-check to make sure.
Every single vote must be counted—know when, where and how you are going to vote, and be prepared before Election Day!
Comments and corrections are welcome, and please share The SOS List as widely as possible!
On to the list!
