The National Association for Stock Car Racing—NASCAR—has its roots in the bootlegging heritage of the American south. Shown belong are some of the NASCAR vehicles on display in the World of Speed, a motorsports museum located in Wilsonville, Oregon.
This car was deemed illegal by NASCAR before it had a chance to compete. According to the display:
“Because of the many stories surrounding the car and its creator, the car became an urban legend, where the lines between fact and fiction are extremely blurred. Much of this is due to the technical genius and the outright character that Smokey was.”
