I just got two emails from the Trump campaign today out of the blue, which doesn’t completely surprise me because it’s entirely possible that my email address slipped into the hands of a middleman somewhere after I donated to a Democratic candidate and was then sold to other political marketing houses because I matched some kind of demographic.
That wouldn’t surprise me, but they didn’t use my donations email address. They used an email address that isn’t directly associated with my name in any way. The email opens “Downtown, you are America’s only hope.”
So... “Downtown” is not my name, but it’s the nominal first name of that anonymous email account. It’s a relatively new and rarely used info@ email address that belongs to an organization that I do some work for. They either got this email address from a shady source that harvested addresses from hacked email accounts or the source harvested the emails from websites.
Now if they harvested the email from a political or advocacy site, I would see the logic. Uh-uh. This organization I’m the contact person for to has nothing to do with politics. If they emailed me at this address, something is really hosed with their targeting practices.
Way to run an organization Donnie. How are those fundraising numbers looking lately?
