The black student union at University of Michigan posted this on their Twitter feed yesterday.
On the right is a poster for the “Alt Right,” telling everyone, in diagonal font, to:
Euro-Americans!
STOP
- Apologizing
- Living in fear
- Denying your heritage
white people exist
white people have the right to exist
white people have the right to exist as white people.
To call the poster insipid is to be offensive to things that are truly uninspired and not simply the strange drunken ramblings of the culturally impotent.
On the left, you can see a much more insidious poster explaining how white women should stay away from black men because … predators. Some choice lines from the considerably more offensive poster:
“He’s much more likely to have STDs.”
“Your kids probably wouldn’t be smart.”
“You should probably just avoid black men.”
University of Michigan released this statement from the administration, admonishing the dummies who created and posted this drivel.
While we continue to defend any individual’s right to free speech on our campus, these types of attacks directed toward any individual or group, based on a belief or characteristic, are inconsistent with the university’s values of respect, civility and equality. We also have a responsibility to create a learning environment that is free of harassment. These are core values and guiding principles that will help us as we strive to live up to our highest ideals.
In this time of heightened political strife, we believe these values take on even more importance as people and beliefs are targets of divisive rhetoric. But amidst these challenging times, our core values can help ground our community.
These types of incidents can be reported to the university’s Bias Response Team at 734-615-BIAS (2427). More information is available online
Thank you Republican Party and right-wing media outlets for making “divisive rhetoric” a profitable association for young folk.
