Hillary Clinton is being reminded every single day why she should continue ignoring the Beltway press corps. On Monday, there was this bullshit:
Hillary Clinton took questions from reporters aboard her campaign plane Monday, but seemingly more interesting than what she said is what to call the session in which she said it. Was it a news conference or something else — perhaps merely a "gaggle" or an "avail"?
“Why won’t she talk to the press about the issues?” they wail, then their work product is bullshit like that, because it’s more “interesting” than substance. Not my word. Theirs. But when they’re not focusing on crap like that, they’re saying shit like this:
[Time reporter Zeke] Miller tweeted a snippet of a pool report describing Clinton as having a “big scarcastic smile on her face” as she welcomed reporters on the plane.
Then, last night, she had to suffer through that farce of a candidate forum, with Today Show’s Matt Lauer ably representing the substance-free and ignorant DC press corps. As one observer noted, “Mr. Lauer’s questioning of Mr. Trump was like watching one student quiz another to prep for a test neither had done the reading for.” Meanwhile, Lauer led the Clinton portion of the forum by asking her about … emails, a topic that was neither relevant to the topic of the forum, nor relevant to anything of remote importance to any real human.
Then, this morning, Clinton decides to give those Beltway media assholes a real press conference, and even that isn’t good enough for them:
I can guarantee you Hillary had about 1,000 better things to do with her time than try to handle those buffoons. The irony is that she handled that press conference really well. She’s actually really good at providing substantive answers, even to stupid questions like “can you respond to that stupid thing Reince Priebus said last night, that we’re going to pretend merits addressing anyways.” If the Beltway media wasn’t so overtly antagonistic toward her, odds are they’d have better access to her. But when their approach is to seek clickbait-y headlines, focus on the (objectively) irrelevant, and talk about insipid shit they consider “more interesting” than her substantive answers, then why should she bother?
As I wrote last week, the DC press corps doesn’t matter. They are irrelevant. She should continue ignoring them.
