There’s been plenty of ink (or pixels, if you will) expended on analysis of Wednesday night’s CinC Forum. It was blatantly obvious that Lauer bullied Clinton and soft-balled Trump. But what fascinated me was the military audience watching the the proceedings. Although “reading body language” has suddenly gotten a bad reputation, in this forum it seemed pretty clear that Clinton “had” the audience. While she was speaking, the audience looked at her attentively, clearly interested in and open to what she was saying, especially later in the program.
During Trump’s portions, the audience seemed to grow more and more disbelieving as he spoke. It also struck me that as Trump continued talking, we saw fewer and fewer clear views of the audience — they were blurred out, or shown from a distance or from behind so we couldn’t see their faces. I “scrolled” through the videos linked below afterwards and it was true — there were many fewer audience shots while Trump was speaking, especially toward the end. I guess they didn’t want to step on their narrative that Trump is a viable candidate.
Here are the videos so you can see for yourselves. Let me know: am I crazy observant, or just crazy?
