Trump spoke in Florida on Friday night, reiterating his comment in the Matt Lauer forum that Hillary Clinton is “trigger-happy”, and what’s more:
let me tell you, folks, personally? Personally? I think she's an unstable person. Okay?
He referred to incidents in recent weeks where Iranian coastal patrol attack vessels harassed US Navy patrol ships and destroyers in international waters in the Persian Gulf. He offered some tremendous advice on what he’d have done in the situation:
when they circle our beautiful destroyers with their little boats, and they make gestures at our people, that they shouldn't be allowed to make, they will be shot out of the water
… which kind of defines “trigger-happy”, doesn’t it? Trump does like him some projection. Then:
Her policies have produced only death, destruction and not diplomacy
I don’t pretend to know anything about maritime harassment but perhaps the policy of shooting boats out of the water is more likely to lead to death, destruction and a breakdown of diplomacy than the actual US Navy response to these “ unsafe, unprofessional” incidents? — which was somewhat more cautious and clear-headed: they attempted communication with the Iranian ships, fired warning flares and shots, and sounded a danger signal.
Sad! Tremendously sad.
Trump can’t help himself dissing the military because he knows better. While accusing his opponent of being unstable enough to do exactly what he’s telling us he would do.
