Donald Trump’s transition team is ready to move fast on slashing government programs from climate change to nuclear physics to the National Endowment for the Humanities, but one part is extra special—and extra appropriate:
At the Department of Justice, the blueprint calls for eliminating the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Violence Against Women Grants and the Legal Services Corporation and for reducing funding for its Civil Rights and its Environment and Natural Resources divisions. [Emphasis added]
There’s a lot to be appalled at right there in that one sentence, but let’s take a minute to consider that the man who dismissed a recording of himself talking about sexually assaulting women as just locker room talk is now planning to preside over the gutting of programs to prevent sexual assault and aid victims of sexual assault.
This is one serious, policy-level commitment to locker room talk. Either that, or it wasn’t just locker room talk to begin with. It was a firm statement of what Donald Trump thinks about women.
Yeah, it was the second one. Trump doesn’t think women have the right to say who touches their bodies how and when, and he certainly doesn’t think the government should get in the way of sexual predators like him.
