As a recommended diary points out, it seems likely that Mike Pompeo, Trump’s head of the CIA, could well be the high ranking intelligence official responsible for contacting the press to try and stifle the Trump/Russia connection.
This immediately reminded me of this fun little nugget from a few weeks ago:
President Trump seemed confused that his new CIA director was not at Republicans' annual retreat here on Thursday.
"Where's Pompeo"? Trump asked lawmakers about former Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., whom Vice President Mike Pence swore in as director of the CIA Monday night.
Remember how confused Trump was that his guy wasn’t with him at the Republican retreat to help him plan to completely take over the country? Just like Comey’s FBI had helped him get elected in the first place, he was certain that with Pompeo in charge of the CIA he now controlled two branches of intelligence, as well as the only two branches of government that mattered (we are all well too familiar with his opinion of the judicial branch). It’s no wonder he is so astonished about all the rumors suggesting some agents are keeping intel from him or not wanting to work for him. President Bannon promised him it would be easy- if you control all of the heads of all aspects of government, you control everything and everyone- the pushback was unexpected.
With things starting to unravel a bit at the seams, he’s calling on his guy again to make things go away.
Which brings us to the rant portion of this diary.
In the past month, the other side is revoking Constitutional protections and civil liberties, stacking cabinet positions for the sole purpose of rendering those departments useless, banning Muslims, threatening allies, and either conspiring with or being blackmailed by Russia in order to change policies and sanctions to make other people richer at our expense. Meanwhile the so-called Pr*sident continues to use his popular vote loss historic victory to get richer, raising prices at his resorts while inviting foreign nationals to come visit, and encouraging guests to come pay-to-gaze.
While this is going on, we are busy trying to figure out which liberal is the liberalest.
A diary currently on the rec list uses a sports metaphor, so I’ll do the same.
Our baseball team is fighting internally trying to decide if they should have the traditional high socks or the more modern low socks. See below.
Important discussion, among baseball purists. But not for anyone else.
Meanwhile, the other team is paying the umpires to make calls their way, corking their bats, scuffing the balls, using pine tar and other banned substances, steroids, HGH, and whatever else they can find to use to their advantage.
They cheat. And they win. Every. Time.
I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that 95% of people don’t really care about the socks. Even casual baseball fans don’t care about the socks. We know enough about baseball to know that….it’s not about the socks. When you’re facing what we are facing, we have better things to be mad about than that. The Trump regime has ordered the CIA to interfere in the investigation into Russian involvement in our elections. They are doing everything they can to manipulate and obfuscate the facts, because an ignorant populace is easier to control. Meanwhile, we are arguing about Bernie’s tone in his congratulations of the new DNC chair. His tone. Seriously. I’m really glad you guys have time for that, but based on what I’ve seen, we need to talk about that some other time.
High socks, low socks, or immigrants in cages. What should we worry about first?
