Welcome to another 27 Dollars group open thread, once again featuring foresterbob’s cat Noble Fur at the top of the diary and a selection of what I think are inspiring quotes and music down below.
Let’s start with some welcoming music:
Last week was a special Warren Piece edition, spotlighting some quotes from Elizabeth Warren.
For those of you who had trouble reading what she said (since in these weekend diaries I encrypt the quotes before posting them) here they are in easier-to-read form.
The first Elizabeth Warren quote last week said:
"The world has changed a lot over the past few months. I'm still finding my way, finding my footing, day-by-day, step-by-step. But with each passing day, we learn.”
Elizabeth Warren
The second quote said:
"Our country is in crisis -- but that crisis didn't begin with the election of Donald Trump.
"We were already in a crisis because for years and years and years. Washington has worked just great for the rich and the powerful, but far too often, it hasn't worked for anyone else. The excuses end now."
And the third Elizabeth Warren quote said:
"If Republicans try to rip healthcare out of the hands of millions of Americans, we will fight them every step of the way."
There were two other encoded quotes in last week’s diary. One was from Bernie Sanders:
Bernie Sanders says, "The American people increasingly understand that throwing 20 million people off health insurance, privatizing Medicare, raising prescription drug costs for seniors and doing away with life-and-death patient protection provisions is not acceptable."
And the final quote was from Martin Luther King:
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
All right, time for some new quotes. Here are three related quotes on an important subject (a subject which is especially important this weekend).
As usual I’ve encoded these quotes before posting them, so you’ll need to decode them if you want to read them tonight. (Or you can wait until next weekend, when I’ll post the plain-English versions of these.)
Important note for anyone new:
These are not regular cryptograms (which can be solved by online programs which run through every possible set of letter substitutions until they find the answer).
These are Crypto-Gremlins, a special kind of cryptogram which computer brains at present find virtually impossible to solve but human brains will find very easy to solve.
If you’re not familiar with how Crypto-Gremlins work and how to solve them you can find complete instructions (and helpful hints) in this linked diary.
Don’t be afraid to try them. Solving these really is very easy. You can find an online tool to help you play with making letter substitutions here.

And lastly for tonight, some musical inspiration for the struggles we face in the days ahead:
