Kaine back on Central American immigration and programs to strengthen the “Northern Triangle” states. He and Tillerson seem to have already talked this through, so the response is pretty flat.
Honestly, this morning it seemed as if there might be some serious effort to derail Tillerson. Rubio and Menendez in particular smacked him around on Russia, and the inadequacy of his responses seemed obvious. But the later participants in the committee through at best a wiffle-ball at Tillerson, and way, way too many—including Democratic senators—seem far more interested in getting their chance to speak than in asking a question. This second round of questioning has all been open-ended, softball, “let me tell you what I think” crap that has totally put Tillerson back in his comfort zone and completely normalized the idea that a guy who, just this morning admitted that he’d make a deal with anyone, anywhere, so long as he could get away with it, is a completely acceptable nominee.
