On the anti-fake news / disinformation front:
DirecTV recently launched a new service for non-satellite streaming called DirecTV Now. It plays over web browser, Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, etc. Reasonably priced and great for cord-cutters.
One big annoyance: on startup it always defaults to autoplaying Fox News. I have talked to their help center and everyone there said the same thing happens to their accounts, and there is no way they know of to change it.
It’s not the first station on the lineup, so somewhere, someone has set up the service to do this. Is DirecTV getting paid by Fox? No one I’ve talked to knows. They suggested setting up a Favorite channel list, but that doesn’t change anything.
I’m trying to find answers, but in the meantime, pass the word that this is happening and publicly discourage people from subscribing until it’s fixed.

Response from DirecTV Now Twitter help account: “DIRECTVNOW will default to most used local channel in your area. There is no option to change it.” I’m not believing this. 1) I live in a blue neighborhood in a blue city in a blue-in-the-face state, and 2) young cord-cutters most likely make up the bulk of streaming subscribers — they’re all watching Fox News?
