I was going to say a few words about my experiences at today’s MASSIVE march in DC, but I discovered Scott McMurrey’s new blog, which says a lot of things I would have said. Here’s an excerpt:
I just got back from the Women's March in Washington. What a blast!
A friend of mine has been putting me up in town for a few days, so I was able to get down to 3rd and Independence early. Even then, people were streaming out of the Metro stations. My DC friends said that they've never seen anything like it, except maybe on the Fourth of July.
I heard lots of defiance. I heard plenty of people explaining why they opposed this particular transfer of power. I heard a great deal of anger.
But what I did not hear was the disgusting self-satisfaction and "damn everyone but us" tone that was taken by President Human Scum yesterday in his Inauguration speech. The speech reeked of arrogance, disrespect, ignorance, petulance, and selfishness—all the traits that so endear Trump to the kindred spirits that make up his base.
Trumpistas need to know that the disgust they engender in the majority goes far beyond politics. The majority don't detest them because they are "conservative," or because they are religious, or because they are rural.
The majority detest them because they are morally bankrupt . . . .
I really recommend you read the rest here: bit.ly/…
He says what so many of us feel about the fight we are now in: it’s not just politics any more. It’s morality. And Republicans have none.
