During a speech to the massive crowd gathered in D.C. for the Women’s March on Saturday, Madonna unleashed a tirade that included “F-bombs” and a joke that Republicans are now using to call for her arrest. Her remarks are below, which are centered around the theme of a love revolution:
“Welcome to the revolution of love, to the rebellion, to our refusal as women to accept this new age of tyranny, where not just women are in danger, but all marginalized people,” she said. “It took this horrific moment of darkness to wake us the fuck up. It seems as though we had all slipped into a false sense of comfort that justice would prevail and that good would win in the end. Well, good did not win this election, but good will win in the end.”
Madonna went on to issue a simple message to those who believe the Women’s March will amount to little political action: “Fuck you.”
“Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House, but I know that this won’t change anything,” she continued. “We cannot fall into despair.”
So maybe it wasn’t the greatest idea to say she’d had those thoughts, but in context, she’s clearly saying that isn’t the right route and love should win the day. Nevertheless, Trump’s inner circle is now openly calling for her arrest. Newt Gingrich on Fox News this morning:
GINGRICH: She is parallel to the young fascists running around town breaking windows. All of them should be given maximum sentence. What you have is an emerging left-wing fascism. She’s part of it. And I think we have to be prepared to protect ourselves. Frankly, she ought to be, the truth is she ought to be arrested.
WATCH:
Gingrich wasn’t the only Republican man calling for Madonna’s arrest. What is it about these guys wanting to see women locked up? I’ll spare you the tweets from the eggheads and eagles wrapped in the flag avatars on Twitter, but needless to say she’s getting Dixie Chick’d.
And the good God-fearing folks at the Tennessee Republican Party, the ones who are determined to take away health care from tens of thousands of Tennessee residents and give tax breaks to the wealthy because it’s what Jesus would do, they piously noted their leader, a phony who’s never set foot in a church before this election, was busy praying:
