I called Representative Ed Royce (CA-39) to ask if the congressman has a position on the White House’s claim that millions of people voted illegally in the November 2016 election. The person that I spoke to said that he was unaware whether the congressman has a position on that issue. I explained that this is a simple but important point: Either there was massive voter fraud or there was not. If there was fraud, then all of us, including all US representatives, should be demanding a complete investigation. If, as all of the evidence strongly suggests, there was not massive fraud, then the congressman should use his position of power and influence to call on the White House to stop spreading lies.
I followed up my phone call with the following email:
Rep. Royce,
Today the White House Press Secretary said that Donald Trump believes that as many as 3 million people illegally voted in the 2016 national presidential election. I wonder if you agree with Mr. Trump. Please tell your constituents where you stand on this issue.
I will assume that you agree with the best information we have about the prevalence of election fraud and thus also agree that Mr. Trump is wrong and almost certainly lying when he says that 3 million people voted illegally. If I am right, then I hope that you will take the opportunity to tell the White House to stop spreading this lie.
On the other hand, if you agree that there was massive voter fraud in the November election, then please do your part by calling for an extensive and thorough investigation into this matter.
Either there was massive voter fraud in the 2016 election or there was not. If there was, then we must have a full and complete investigation. If there was not, then we must all call upon Donald Trump to stop lying about it.
Thank you for your time,
I suggest that we all call our representatives and senators to ask them for their positions. Will they facilitate lying or stand up against it?
