So, here's some #WomensMarch news spreading like hotcakes on the internets...
According to conservatives who have seen my videos of women leaving their signs at the Daughters of the American Revolution building, I am "scum" for promoting vandalism. More ridiculous still, they want me prosecuted— despite the fact that I really can’t take credit for anything except making a few videos. For those unfamiliar, people were leaving their signs at the Daughters building in solidarity with women everywhere. However, some see the message as “disrespectful” to “hateful,” as I have been getting piles of remarks to that effect. The same folks also seem more concerned about the cost of the clean-up, than combating Trump’s misogynist remarks.
In the first video, I do my best to document the signs themselves.
In the second video, which seems to be the one that people are upset about, I speak to a man who is concerned about the clean-up, and agree that tax-payers will likely have to pick up the bill. That said, my guess is that one person could handle this task in under an hour, and they likely have someone on staff already who could handle it. But, it seems that others are upset that I gave some light-hearted PT Barnum-esque invitations for people to leave their signs— which people were already very much doing on their own. I assure you it was in fun.
But, in response to the backlash, I have officially reached out to personally pay for an hour’s worth of clean-up, despite knowing that Code Pink was taking care of much of this. Of course, I also got this on video.
For those who missed it... most of this is in response to Trump's rampant sexist remarks such as "grab em by the p*ssy.” The fact that typically climate-denying conservatives are concerned with biodegradable paper which can easily be picked up in a short amount of time seems beyond absurd. And that anyone would see the actions of people leaving these signs as the actions of "scum" is beyond comprehension.
But that's where we're at. I look forward to the day where rationality and reason could help to elevate women's issues, rather than have this seen as a negative.
More signs:
For any women out there who attended the #WomensMarch. Send some love to The Daughters of the American Revolution, and let them know that the signs left at their building were put there in love and solidarity for women everywhere and maybe consider donating some money to their cause.
