Let me recap for you the actions of the man you voted for. He is a serial liar, a racist, a xenophobe, an islamophobe and a misogynist. He incited violence regularly during his campaign (which happened during many of his rallies) and he has appointed a man to his cabinet who was the Executive Chair of a website that is a platform for the alt-right[neo-fascist] movement(breitbart.com). He has been endorsed by current and past members of the KKK and other white supremacist movements(and there is a good reason for that).
He has been filmed bragging about sexually assaulting women and has been cited as admitting to ogling naked teenagers who were competing in his beauty pageants.
He is hiding his financial information from the public and there was/is legitimate concern about him having ties to Russia(an enemy of the United States of America, BTW) leading-up-to-and-post election day. His suspected ties to Russia appear more likely due to his adoration of Putin, leader of said enemy, who is a dictator, a former KGB agent and is guilty of many, many, many crimes against his own people.
He also bullied a physically disabled reporter by making fun of him at his rally and has tried to silence the press before and after inauguration.
He was being sued for defrauding his students of Trump University while the campaign was still going, which he ended up settling for $25M to make it go away(that implies guilt, no matter what). He is still in litigation over 75 lawsuits for claims of defamation, cheating investors and illegal firing of an employee for reporting sexual harassment, just to name a few.
This is by no means a complete list. This was information readily available to you. Some info you had to do a little research to dig up, but most of it came straight from Trump himself and was reported on by almost all media outlets.
Your outrage about violence is understandable, however, there were many, many incidents of violence by Trump supporters against peaceful anti-Trump protesters during the campaign, so condemn those acts as well. That these types of incidents are happening to Trump supporters should not be a surprise given his rhetoric and the taunting and assault perpetrated by some of his supporters. It should be understandable that, in Liberal/anti-Trump camps, there is righteous anger, outrage and also confusion about that fact that people voted for him in the face of such clear evidence that he is a terrible, shady, narcissistic person and unqualified to lead this country. That is not an excuse for attacks, but how it happens is understandable.
When you had to make the decision on who you’d vote for, you said, “Well, all that stuff isn’t good, but Hillary Clinton... she’s sketchy with that whole private email server thing, even though the justice department and FBI didn’t find anything criminal had happened, but [fill in any Clinton Rumor/slur or past transgression of Bill here]...but those things about Trump are not a deal-breaker for me, so I vote for HIM!”
Does it mean that everyone who voted for Trump automatically believes in what he said/says/has done? No, but if you voted for Trump, then that long, long list of vile stuff wasn't enough to dissuade you from voting for him. That is what is disturbing. Your vote is going to be hung around your neck whether you like it or not. That was your conscious decision and pointing to that vote for a horrible person is a natural consequence.
Does an attack on a Trump supporter/voter mean I condone those acts? No. Those are individuals acting on their own accord and I can only condemn that behavior and move forward with the purpose of finding a peaceful resolution to our country’s problems. “Liberals” are not to blame for those individual’s actions. But I did not vote for a man who incites violence and is supported by others who do the same. These two things are not equivalent.
If you didn’t vote for Trump and are still outraged about violence on both sides, then continue to fight for a better country. If you voted for Trump and are outraged with violence on both sides, then keep working for non-violent solutions. If you still support Trump, know I will never agree with your support for him, but won’t discount you as a fellow citizen.
