I am writing my congressman, Republican Greg Walden of Oregon’s 2nd district. Anybody have any edits or suggestions? If your rep is from the GOP, feel free to copy and paste…
Dear Representative Walden:
You are my representative in congress so I am writing to relay my concerns. Let me be clear: I have never voted for you and I never will, but still, you are my access to the federal government, so I believe it is your job to hear me out. I will not be writing today about my many differences with you or your party on policy, neither of us has that much time or believes that would be productive. I am writing today about the survival of our nation as we have known it. Despite our differences, I believe you do want America to succeed, and you probably hope to stay in your job beyond 2018.
The President is unfit for office for many reasons. My partial list: probable mental illness (Google Narcissistic Personality Disorder and consider his behavior in light of the defining characteristics of the diagnosis); obvious conflicts of interest in place from the old post office hotel down the street from the White House to hotels, and golf resorts all over the world; lack of transparency of either his taxes or his (not divested) business holdings and debts; behaving in his appointments, statements and actions exactly like a puppet of Vladimir Putin; setting new standards per media fact-checkers for lying to the public about matters trivial and important... His tax-cutting and spending plans are going to inflate the deficit bigly, his anti-trade policies are going to isolate America from trading partners and markets in North America and around the world, his failure to defend NATO and other international organizations will abdicate our place as leaders on the world stage, and probably end the US Dollar's reign as the reserve currency for world accounts. I feel it is only a matter of time under his "leadership" until the US and possibly the earth will end up as either a metaphorical or an actual radioactive wasteland.
As a Republican, you have a serious decision to make. If you think everything he is doing is just wonderful, by all means support him. But if you wish to fulfill the oath of your office, to represent me and 770,000 other Oregonians, and place country before party, then resist the excesses, the overreaches, the unjustified acts, -- then denounce the lies, demand the financial and tax records, and investigate the Russian connections. Donald Trump is going to crash and burn. Those members of his party most seen as enabling the worst of his tendencies and actions are likely to go down with him. I won't pretend that the 2nd district will send a Democrat to DC anytime soon, but post-Trump, those who blindly supported Trump and party rather than serving their nation will not be treated well in the primaries, either. Your party has managed to gerrymander a 47% vote into control of the executive and legislative branches federally and in many states. Do you expect you will be able to maintain that control when Trump drags your party down to 45% approval? 40? 35? Be an American, not just a Republican.
