I entered the NPR Tiny Desk Music Contest with a new song (still not quite finished, but close enough for the contest’s purposes) I wrote to *continue* to draw attention to issues veterans face (PTSD, Substance Abuse, Divorce, Suicide, Homelessness, etc)
The song is called My War, and I wrote it after speaking with a neighbor’s son who was going through divorce with his wife and she wouldn’t let him see his child. As a father, that aspect of the story is gutting enough. But after years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq and the constant seemingly unsolvable issues with getting our vets the care they deserve, I just started writing. I don’t write “issue songs” at all. This is my first attempt. Once the song is published to major digital music services, I plan on donating 100% of sales to veterans groups. The video can be viewed here.
