Good News! Just heard of the on-air resurrection of a favorite radio talk show that used to broadcast from Madison at 92.1 the MIC, the last remaining progressive radio station in WI, as the Devil's Advocates (until the day after elections when the format turned to 24/7 Christmas music — what a low blow!) I greatly admired and respected the spirit in which they met the challenges of the changed situation and scrambled to keep it going. Well done, Devils! And warmest congratulations!
The 'devils' — Mike Crute & Dominic Salvia — have bought 1510 AM: the radio station is in the Milwaukee area, with the transmitter tower in deep-red Waukesha. They are partnering with Citizen Action of Wisconsin's Radio-Active Organizing Campaign to launch an alternative to right-wing hate radio in this state. 1510 AM: The End of Milwaukee's Right-Wing Radio Monopoly!
These guys covered the Uprisings in Madison over the union-busting “drop-the-bomb” Act 10. Both got arrested. Mike joined the Solidarity Singers in the Capitol rotunda. Dom was separately covering the protest as a reporter — he got arrested, too. Dom and Crute They sued and won. They continued to report on the doings of the Republican trifecta of Kochocratic minions as they pillage our WI tradition of clean government. Walker-bashing segments a favorite of mine! Their humor, sarcasm, intelligence, understanding of business and accounting, have contributed moral support as we continue to descend into Ayn Randian decrepitude as depicted in Atlas Shrugged [beginning p 215].
We followed them as they covered and mocked Scott Walker’s short-lived campaign for President, covered a variety of rallies, and were at both conventions, the inauguration, and the women’s rights march. Here is their blurb:
In a major victory for Citizen Action's Radio-Active project, Mike Crute ( co-host of the Devil’s Advocates radio show) makes an exclusive announcement on the podcast that he is buying a major radio station in the Milwaukee market, broadcasting at 1510 AM. The new commercial talk radio station will feature independent and progressive voices engaging in fact-based discussions, including local hosts and national luminaries such as Thom Hartmann, Stephanie Miller, and many others. We also discuss Scott Walker’s punitive plan to force parents with children to work a minimum of 80 hours a month to receive food stamps and housing assistance, while the Walker economy continues to hemorrhage family supporting jobs. Also the panel discusses shocking new cost estimates for one of Walker's biggest corporate tax loopholes, his latest assault on worker rights, and new evidence that private school tax break passed by the GOP in the middle of the night is going primarily to wealthier Wisconsinites. We also weigh in on the latest Trump assaults on civil liberties. We welcome Milwaukee County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic to talk about the County Board’s resolution this week opposing all forms of discrimination and pledging that Milwaukee County will remain a safe place for undocumented immigrants -- regardless of federal law.
Here is a podcast the show in which they announced that they “have some good news…some great news….and some bad news. You’ll have to listen to find out.”
Update: Puddytat alerted me that this link comes up empty. I’m guessing the guys are busy setting up for their first broadcast on 1510 AM tomorrow, February 1. So, I’ll provide you with an alternative — a YouTube video of an interview with them after Dom won his lawsuit against the Scottie Walker regime that will give you a good sense of their spirit. [Just tested it; it worked.]
Plus Bill Press interviews Dom about the Uprising, and his arrest.
