Sen. Jeff Merkley will filibuster the nomination of Judge Gorsuch. The GOP will eliminate the filibuster and install Gorsuch and equally extreme judges to fill Ginsburg's seat (likely to be open) and probably one more in the next 4 years. Democratic Senators (and certainly Democratic primary voters) will never forget what the GOP has done. The filibuster for all level of court nominees will be dead for many decades if not forever. That might be a bad thing but the natural evolution of this civil war in the Senate (and the country, admit it, we are in a "cold" civil war between red and blue voters) will be the elimination of the filibuster for everything. That is unfortunate. With no filibuster the Senate will become as subject to the passions of the times as the House is. Six year terms are meaningless when we have elections every two years that determine control of the Senate. The GOP has ruined the founder's vision for the Senate as the "deliberative" body.
Thanks GOP. You continue to damage the republic over and over again.
