As I sometimes like to say, “tempus does fugit”. About 10 days ago I wrote a DIARY letting everybody know that “The Nation” magazine was mobilizing to make a positive difference in the upcoming VA state special elections. The full text of the e-mail is in the linked diary.
This was not a one trick pony for them. On Monday they sent out another last minute e-mail to their VA subscribers, reminding them that the last day to register to vote in the special election was 1/03/2017. Here is the text, short and too the point;
I want to make sure you saw my email regarding Virginia’s upcoming special election on January 10th. The last day to register to vote for this election is tomorrow, January 3rd. Be sure that all of your friends and family are registered to vote and check out 90 for 90 to learn other ways you can get involved.
All the best,
The Nation is doing their part, let’s give them all the support we can. Time literally is running out, the special election is on January 10th, 6 days away! Time for one last concerted push to get these three candidates into the VA legislature! Here are the three candidates
Delegate Jennifer McClellan (VA state Senate district 9) Her website is HERE.
Ryant Washington (VA state Senate district 22) His website is HERE.
Cheryl Turpin (VA House of Delegates district 85) Her website is HERE.
I can’t overstate how critical this is, for a couple of reasons. First of all, after November, we could really use a win under our belts, get a little swagger back and give us something positive to build on. Second, this is really critical. Any seat is an important seat, we all know that, but the two Senate seats especially can make a huge difference. If we can put both of those candidates over the top, the VA state Senate is then in a mathematical tie, which means that the Democratic Lieutenant Governor would cast the tie breaking vote. Bad bills that come in can be stopped by partisan solidarity, and good bills can get through by the tie breaker vote.
So, let’s get this done. I have been told that since our efforts started on these special elections, at least one of the candidates reported that they had received donations from almost every state in the country. This is the kind of impact we have on a race when we get involved, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
We’re in the final countdown here, let’s start the year off with a win, and head into the NC special elections later this year with the wind at our backs for once! This is not only an “off year election”, it’s a special election, only these three districts are voting. I’m guessing that voter turnout will be extremely low. This is why The Nation getting involved, and our continued involvement is so important, a few hundred votes could turn the tables, especially if we scrape up every vote while the GOP just sits at home, taking it for granted. If you live in Virginia, get in touch with the candidates, and find ways you can help. If you don’t live in VA but want to get more actively involved than just a donation, go to the 90for90.org website at this link to the VA special elections, each candidate has a link to do a little virtual phone banking. Let’s give The Orange Julius a little stick in the eye before he even takes the oath of office.
