As OJ Simpson breathes free air after nine years, we will inevitably have to revisit the Trial of the Century. Once again I will have to read about how he didn’t do it, he was framed, Mark Furman planted evidence, etc. etc. etc. It’s going to be Groundhog Day for OJ.
I followed the trial very closely, and even though the Internet was along way from where it is now, I downloaded all the transcripts.
There is no doubt about what happened in the mind of any reasonable person who looks at the evidence.
OJ went to murder his wife, having prefabricated an alibi that he was on a plane, and was caught in the act by Ron Goldman, who was also killed. In the struggle, Goldman managed to pull off OJ’s left glove and and his hat, which were found at the scene. The other glove from the pair was found in the spot where Kato Kaelin heard something hit the air conditioner on the back of his room. Because the chauffeur arrived early, OJ c0oudn’t drive his car back onto the property, so he left the bloody vehicle parked on the street. The bulb from the dome light had been removed, so it didn't go on when the door was opened.
I have to attribute the acquittal to the prosecution, which acted like a football team trying to sit on a lead and not lose. They were supposed to be the offense, but they were on defense the entire time.
The closing statement should have sealed the case. I could have made a better one in fifteen minutes instead of two hours.
If it doesn’t get too tedious, I will respond to any doubts about OJ’s guilt in the comments. Please don’t bother me with, “OJ did it AND the police framed him.” That is just short of saying that aliens did it, and it isn’t a serious theory. Mark Furman did not plant any evidence.
