Before he was even president, Trump sent out this whopper of a lie:
It was both appalling and frightening that the newly elected president of the US didn’t recognize millions of votes. It was just plain disgusting, however, that our media refused to call it a lie.
InfoWars, with that nutcase Alex Jones, sent out a headline that was almost identical to the one used by NBC News. Many major American news outlets—wanting to appear "fair and balanced"—from CNN to USA Today—wrote a similar one:
When Trump later clearly lied about his inauguration crowd size, the media didn't call it a lie. NBC News carried the story this way: “Trump Press Secretary Slams Media Over Inauguration Crowd Size Coverage.”
It’s not just Trump. Our media is reluctant to call out blatant lies when they occur. On CNN, when Sen. Bill Cassidy was discussing his healthcare bill, he utterly lied:
"Under Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson, more people will have coverage, and we protect those with preexisting conditions.”
Every word was a demonstrable lie. CNN didn't call him on any of it. NPR's Mara Liasson didn't even bother to bring it up.
Fast-forward to today:
No, it didn’t. It’s a blatant lie.
Tom Knowles shows how to do it from the UK Times:
Also, as the Telegraph points out, the rise in crime was mainly due to a “surge in knife related offences, which were up 26 percent and have been put down to gang activities, rather than terrorism.”
The Daily Mirror’s Mikey Smith straight up told everyone “You made that up!”
Boom!
Compare all the headlines from the Chan tweet to the headlines today concerning Trump' s current lie on the crime report:
Just for fun, this is how Fox “News” framed it:
- Trump cites terror as reason for increase in UK violence, as crime stats across Europe rise.
Their little wannabe rightwing outlet NewsMax wrote:
- Trump on UK Crime Report: 'We Must Keep America Safe'
Thankfully, a few real news outlets here in the States have finally started to pay attention to their readers/viewers. Subscriptions have soared only because people are demanding the free press hold this lying, authoritarian president to account.
Which means it gave me great hope that USA TODAY wrote this:
Maybe there’s a little hope for us after all...
