Being prepared is what EPA is supposed to promote. Here is what they are up to ahead of Nate.
My parents lived in Pascagoula for a couple of years while my father was heading a ship building project. They moved there right after Hurricane Camille. That was August of 1969. It hit as a Cat 5 and killed 259 people, causing $9.27 million (in today’s USD) worth of damage, including in the Appalachians as it made its way into Virginia.
Today nobody remembers it. Or nearly nobody.
Nate isn’t supposed to be anywhere near Cat 5, but it’s still going to do a lot of damage and cause a lot of pain. And part of that is a lot of stuff that our presently underfunded and under-supported EPA is supposed to be monitoring and managing.
