Johnny is 30 years old and close to death even after multiple arrests, interventions and medical emergencies he will not stop taking drugs. He is currently laying in a hospital bed for a life saving surgery that has been scheduled for a year and a day before his surgery he fed his drug habit knowing it could kill him. Arrests didn’t work and building a wall won’t help because Johnny isn’t addicted to “drugs pouring across the border” he is addicted to Oxy and Fentanyl.
Most of the stories I read or watch about heroin users or worse people who lost their lives to the deadly drug don’t start off with “he smoked a little weed and it became a gateway” but in fact most start off with “he was in an accident and the doctor prescribed pain medication”. We’re facing drugs more powerful today than we ever have, even in the 80’s when Nancy Reagan started her “just say no” and laws were passed to discriminate on drug types and lock up millions of mostly African American.
Today drugs are stronger, more addictive and as statistics show more deadly than ever before and they’re not brought in from Mexico or made in a rednecks garage. Yes Heroin, Cocaine and Meth are huge problems but the biggest problem is coming from the doctors office and hospitals and it’s all legal because drug companies line the pockets of politicians.
Most stories like Johnny start out with an accident that lead a doctor to prescribe Oxycoton, the user gets addicted and after a while it stops working on the pain so they move on to Fentanyl but then when the doctor tells them they don’t need it anymore they’re still addicted so have to find the next high and relief so they turn to heroin or find a new doctor who will continue to write prescriptions or worse they’ll turn to the streets for their oxy like Johnny did.
Those “scary drug dealers” from the 80’s pushing drugs on your children are now named Alza, Merk, GSK and are pumping out poison legally. They are also huge donors to political campaigns, spend millions on lobbying and spend million to fight legalization of marijuana. I’m not saying medical marijuana is perfect but it works and it’s less deadly and addictive than Oxy and Fentanyl.
So why is the justice department planning on going after medical marijuana states and shut down the business? Maybe it’s because the Attorney General Jeff Sessions while in politics has taken a lot of money from drug companies and tobacco companies which are two of the biggest competitors of medical marijuana.
The whole system is corrupt from the FDA which authorizes new drugs to the companies which buy politicians to put the squeeze on their competitors. Maybe it’s time we start thinking about our children and their future and what might help people more than what might make politicians richer. The fact that people in the FDA and politicians who can authorize or deny drugs are allowed to own stocks in companies that they are regulating would be a good 1st start.
For the record Johnny is real, I changed his/her name but they are currently laying in a hospital bed fighting for their life and yes they are a relative of mine.
