First the trend is not looking good for Northam. He still leads by about 2.5% average in RCP, but this is down from nearly 4% a week ago.
Second, Democrats often underperform their poll numbers in Virginia governor races. McAuliffe polled about 5-6 points of Cuccinelli in 2013 but only won by 2.5.
I fear Gillespie's fear mongering is working. If he wins it will be a huge boost for Trump and a quite embarrassing defeat for Democrats. I can easily see pundits using this race to write off our chances in 2018, even 2020.
Any thoughts?
