More below the fold:
So the last raid of Burning Legion, the Burning Throne of Antorus, is now open. The blacksmithing shop in Dalaran has yet another “upgrade your legendaries” quest to get your legendaries to item level 1000, which is also the item level they drop at now.
And we have a raid report from Papagenia, winding up Tomb of Sargeras and starting Antorus with Team Pm:
Raid Report:
Well, we're all done with Tomb of Sargeras, and while Team Kaels finished on heroic a few weeks ago to get the Ahead of the Curve achievement, Team Pm did not quite get there. I don't think we really had the goal of getting it until we unexpectedly found ourselves with just Avatar and Kil'jaeden to go a couple of weeks ago - and then we put a push on. But Avatar held us up for a few nights, until finally last Tuesday, we were able to get his health down close to 20% before we crashed thru the floor to the hellish last phase of fighting the boss plus giant purple circles of damage plus whirlwinds of death all on a floor that kept breaking up and shrinking. I think in our previous tries, it was just taking us too long to get him down in that phase if he started it with over 30% health - so this time, we really put the hurt on him in the first phases and were able finally to kill him before we all died. YAY! We were truly sick of that fight.
Alas, Kil'jaeden, as is appropriate for a final boss, is a step above Avatar and every other fight in Tomb. We took some pulls on him Tuesday after doing Avatar, but it seemed clear that with one more night before the new raid dropped that we were most probably going to come up short. We did try again Monday night, but we were short 3 of our top DPS, to start the evening, and after 4 wipes on KJ, Wealtheow voiced what most of us were thinking but didn't want to admit - we're not going to get this, so this is really a waste of time. We all agreed, went back out, and came in to do some farming of the earlier heroic bosses before saying farewell to Tomb. It's somewhat disappointing that we didn't get AOTC, but we'll survive - we're pleased we got all but the last boss, and glad to have a new raid to play with now.
Speaking of which, the new raid Antorus opened up on normal and heroic difficulty Tuesday night, and while it is predictably and disappointingly a LOT of fel green, at least it's new fights with new strategies to learn. True to our casual style, many of us (at least I think it was not just me) had not even read up on these fights, something Cahirn anticipated as he planned the strats for the rest of us. Truthfully, it's hard for me to get much out of videos or writeups until I actually see the fight in person, so we will all probably catch up on those this week. Antorous, the Burning Throne, is Sargeras' headquarters, and is a partially non-linear raid with a total of 11 boss fights; you have to kill Garothi Worldbreaker, a giant fel reaver, first and then you choose the order you want to do the next 4 in. The first two bosses we did, pretty much like always, were pretty easy on normal mode anyway, so we one-shot Garothi and Felhounds of Sargeras without a lot of problems. Antoran High Command, a council fight with several bosses on a round robin, as it were, was more of a challenge, and we wiped a few times without quite getting there. However, on the last pull we got them below 30%, so we'll hit that one again on Monday and hope to succeed so we can move on. Council fights are always pretty fun and this one is no exception.
Team Kaels, I note from the logs, is also doing this first week in there on normal, although I think both teams have a good chance of taking the first two bosses at least on heroic right now. But we decided and they probably did as well that it was a good idea to see as much of the entire raid as possible on normal first, and Team K is doing its usual great job, getting 7 bosses down over its first two nights in the raid. I expect Team Pm will get through most of these fights on normal maybe by the end of the year, and then switch to heroic. Since this is the last raid we will have in this expansion, though, I'm not in a huge hurry to finish it, myself - I don't think the next expansion will release before September, so it looks like we'll have 9 months at least in Antorus unless they come up with a Ruby Sanctum-like diversion for raiders in the last few months of Legion (dubious proposition at best.) So, I don't mind taking our time and enjoying each other's company while we're doing it.
That's all I have for this week. For the Horde!
