This is my Roy Moore story. . .
I used to listen to a local talk radio show. It was the Ron Smith show. I enjoyed it because I disagreed with Ron on many things but enjoyed his arguments. He called himself, “the voice of reason” and indeed he seemed that way.. . but there was almost always some small flaw in his logic. Nevertheless, itwas entertaining.
One day, he had Roy Moore on. Roy had just had that monumentof the Ten Commandments installed in his court house late on a Friday afternoon. There was no public discussion of it beforehand. He just did it. The thing weight many tons. I believe arcane had to be used but I am not sure on that point.
But I remember vividly Roy Moore’s impassioned explanation. He explained that the Ten Commandments were the foundation of our modern law and instrumental in three of the world major religions: Christian, Judeism and the Muslim faith. That one point was the most valid of all of his stupid arguments and on close examination it does not hold up either as there are multiple versions of the Ten Commandments.
I did something that day I had only done once before. I fired off an email to Ron Smith.
My email related the photo importance of the separation of church and state, then went on to various quotes of the founding fathers concerning the matter. I also mentioned the history of the colonies being fresh off of the religious wars of Europe and the incestuous relationship of those governments with religion.
Finally I ended my letter by saying that Ron should not have been taken in by this fraud. I told him I would be willing to bet he was a zealot that believedthe world was 6,000 years old and that man was made from mud pies. I told him he should not have him on again, be fooled by him again.
Ron read my letter on the air, all except the last line. Hehe.
As it turned out, I was exactly correct. Roy is indeed a zealot that believes the world is 6,000 years old and that man was made from mud pies. The only reason to made such a willfully ignorant claim is to insist on a literal translation of the Bible and it simply does not hold up to inspection on those claims for a number of reasons.
But also Roy’s claims that he installed those commandments and that he was only doing so in support of those religions and religious freedom also does not bear close inspection.Because Roy Moore stated publicly that Keith Ellison should not be seated in Congress because he is Muslim! Roy exposed his own charade.
So look, even if all the women accusing him are liars and I think it’s pretty safe to say they are not. . . Roy Moore is simply not suited for office. He does not have an understanding of Freedom of Religion and also clearly does not believe in science.
