Right now many men are getting an education, myself included. This is a good thing, but I cannot help but feel the loss of you not being in the Senate fighting the good fight. Your intelligence, mastery of the subjects under consideration, wit, courage—all of these things will be missed. Though I’ve never been one of your constituents, I’ve long appreciated your public service.
Democrats are held to a higher standard, and I believe the fact the public has higher expectations about Democrats and the Democratic Party is a good thing. Unfortunately, the Republicans sink to and below the public’s expectations of them. I don’t know if this is the right or wrong time for you to resign, but what I do know is that you would not do it unless you were sure it was right for your constituents and the American people. I also know that we are losing a fighter on our side.
I sincerely hope that this is NOT the last I see of Al Franken. Please find a way to continue your public service to the American people, and to people everywhere. We need you Al.
With the deepest and sincerest thanks,
