This country was formed on the basis of a social compact wherein we the people would adopt rules by which we agree to live . The Declaration of Independence was written when the majority living under the yoke of the British Empire decided that they were unwilling to consent to such rule. It is not unique in the history of human kind for the majority to say enough is enough and there is nothing unique about our social compact. We live under a government by consent. However, when the minority abuses the rules by which we agreed to live, that compact is no longer tolerable. The Republican party has long abused these rules.
The list of grievances is as long as those set forth by the Founding Fathers. They have limited the people’s right to vote. They have gerrymandered voting districts to no longer be representative of the people. They have installed a president by a partisan vote of the Supreme Court. They have refused a duly elected president his legitimacy. They have used every lever of power to obstruct democracy. They have denied the president the right to make an appointment to the Supreme Court. They use money and an oligarchy to control the election process. This list of grievances is endless and growing.
Now, in the era of Trump, the issue has come to a head. We are lead by a child with a white supremacist playing the role of his Rasputin. Madness, fear and hate rule the day. The Republican party is a willing participant in this disease process for the sake of power to impose a draconian agenda on the majority through their many abuses of power. They are allowed to do this through foreign interference in our already restricted election process. They act willfully in an authoritarian manner as they pretend to represent the majority through a lens of “alternative facts.” They do not represent the majority; they do not represent us.
When our elected representatives in the Democratic party cower at the shadow of this evil, while children die, refugees starve, a five year old girl is handcuffed in an American airport and a Supreme Court seat is stolen, then what good are they to us; what good is our social compact? The answer is simple-this nightmare depends on the consent of the majority. I do not consent-we do not consent. It is time to march and take the country back-it is time for a revolution.
