Russia is acting up, violating arms treaty. www.nytimes.com/… But too bad. Trump, Rex Tillerson and Steve Bannon — not just Michael Flynn www.nytimes.com/ love Russia! You see, Exxon has 63 million acres of oil reserves in Russia. More than in all the rest of the world combined. But media never reports the relevance of this in Flynn’s call to tell Russia not to worry about new sanctions. Or when talking about Trump’s drive for a cozy relationship with Putin and Russia. Think of all the shares they must all own in Exxon and perhaps other oil corporations with holdings in Russia.
U.S. sanctions on Russia have prevented Exxon Mobil from exploring assets covering 63.6 million acres.
Tillerson has criticized U.S. sanctions on Russia and was awarded Russia's Order of Friendship by Putin in 2013. /snip/
Exxon's operations in Russia ….. a joint venture with Russian state-controlled oil giant Rosneft to explore and produce fossil fuels in Arctic waters represents a big part of Exxon's potential future production growth.
(But) have been on ice since 2014, when the United States imposed sanctions on Russia for its incursions into Ukraine. Exxon (puts losses from sanctions as possibly) $1 billion through the end of 2015.
Now Secretary of State, friend of Russian leade rPutin, Tillerson must have lots and lots of Exxon shares. I bet Trump and other WH folks do too. Wonder how they are feeling today?
And I wonder what the WH will do about this, now with a ridiculously non-functioning National Security Council with no Joint Chiefs, and Steve Bannon, conspirator extraordinaire calling the shots there and in the White House. Just reported, www.nytimes.com/...
