I just read a story from MikeB532 titled “Special Counsel Needed In Highly Charged Political Atmosphere”. Unfortunately it has received very little notice and deserves much more. I am upset with this for two reasons. First, most of the comments were dismissive rather than supportive, reflecting that many of us are feeling hopeless — GET THE F&^% OVER IT. Second, the author provided some excellent ammunition for us all to use. Here’s the comment I made, suggesting how to use this ammunition:
Please join me in reminding AG Sessions of his own words. It’s just four simple steps away.
1. Click on this link Contact Jeff Sessions
2. Enter your contact information, then copy the two paragraphs quoted above and paste them into the message body.
3. Write a single sentence reminding Mr Sessions that President Trump and his various teams were in contact with various Russian operatives both as a candidate and as President-Elect.
4. Be sure that your sentence is phrased with simplicity and without any rancor. Now press Submit.
The more of us who send this message, the louder our collective voice. I don’t give a flying flip that it may only be read by low-level clerks. It is every bit as important to remind THEM why they are in the Justice Department and perhaps get one or two of them to bring this point up for discussion.
The two quoted paragraphs are:
“The appropriate response when the subject matter is public and it arises in a highly-charged political atmosphere is for the Attorney General to appoint a Special Counsel of great public stature and indisputable independence to assure the public that the matter will be handled without partisanship.”
“Because of our grave concern for integrity in government we ask for a Special Counsel. When a high public official is accused of serious wrongdoing, and there is serious factual predicate to investigate, it is imperative that the investigation be thorough, with dispatch and without partisanship.”
These were spoken by then-Senator Sessions in an op-ed. Let’s hold him to his own words.
