So last night I came across a debate among 8 or so people who want to lead the Democratic National Committee. Apparently three months is not enough time to pick new leadership. While these good folks argue about who can do the best job “rebuilding” the party, there is currently no one trying to rebuild the party. Special elections are coming up in Georgia and Montana (to name just two) where democrats actually have a chance of flipping these seats. Hundreds of thousands of people are marching and attending town halls and donating to progressive causes. But where is the Democratic Party? Oh sure, a few democratic lawmakers show up to these rallies and get interviewed on MSNBC from time to time but the truth is no one is leading the party right now...and it shows.
Democrats have a golden opportunity to unite the people who strayed away during the last few years. But there is no recognized leader and there is no coherent message among all the groups who are demanding to be heard. You can truly call the current groundswell organic because it sure hasn’t been coordinated by the democrats.
Can we get this internal election over with already? Can someone please step up and explain how the Party intends to nurture and harness all this good energy? Can someone please take on the Trump team every day and make the democratic case to the people? I fear the party is blowing a golden opportunity here. You don’t have to have a title to lead.
