I am running for the House of Delegates to build strong communities and create jobs for citizens of Virginia Beach and for folks across Virginia.
I will ensure working folks have a strong advocate in the General Assembly. I will bring positive progressive leadership and supply good ideas that create jobs and solve problems while being financially responsible.
Ideas that create economic empowerment zones in disadvantaged communities:
Virginia is one of the top 10 economically performing states in the country. Sadly, pockets of poverty and crumbling neighborhoods still exist here. I want to develop economic empowerment zones in these neighborhoods to lift them out of poverty. Those zones will help give those folks a shot at the American Dream.
Ideas that keep public money in public schools:
Our public school teachers are overworked and underpaid. While Republicans in the General Assembly are trying to give school vouchers to wealthy people to send their children to private school. We must KEEP PUBLIC MONEY IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. We must also pay school teachers appropriately and give them the resources they need to do their jobs.
Ideas that protect women’s rights and their personal decisions:
My opponent voted against women’s rights. He voted to require Trans-vaginal ultra-sounds, to legalize fetal person-hood, and to designate “a day of tears” which would require the Flag of the Commonwealth to be flown at half mast to politicize Roe v. Wade. While he has been busy trying to treat Virginia’s women as second class citizens, I will fight to preserve the rights so many of you have fought for, for so long. We will not go backwards on these issues.
Ideas that provide equal treatment under the law for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters:
While republicans in the General Assembly propose bathroom bills and are presenting legislation that allows for businesses to discriminate against gay and trans people, I will work to ensure full equality under the law with no exceptions.
Ideas that stop targeting Muslim Americans and stop barring access to safe haven for refugees of war:
I am appalled by the lack of leadership in Washington. It seems the administration wants to turn people away from our shores and target loyal Americans.
Some of our best and brightest were immigrants fleeing from oppressive governments. Einstein and Fermi put us on the map in terms of atomic energy, just to name a few. We had a chance in the 1930s to provide refuge for Jews fleeing the holocaust. Instead, we turned them away. We must stop such a tragedy from ever happening again.
Our government has a sad history of targeting different groups. Despite never having a spy among them, our government rounded up our Japanese citizens into camps. In the decades since, I’d thought we’d learned from our past mistakes. Then, I read the news. We can’t let things like this keep happening. Not in my Virginia. Not in yours.
The only way to stop things like this from happening again is to do everything in our power to motivate Democrats to get out on election day and VOTE.
I will spend the next 9 months doing my part to make sure that every Democrat in my district is FIRED UP and READY to GO!
About a month ago, as most of you know, we had a special election in the district right next door to mine. My friend Cheryl Turpin ran an excellent campaign and came within a couple hundred votes of a major upset. The next day, we hit the ground running at full speed.
I’m pleased to tell you that in this short amount of time, we raised thousands of dollars from hundreds of donors. Many more folks are getting involved donating, collecting petition signatures, and sharing our posts with their social media networks. Thank You! If you aren’t one of those people yet, and you’re ready to jump in, please get in touch. We would love to speak with you.
