Senator Racist Foghorn Leghorn is our new AG and is going to make "let the eagle soar" Ashcroft look like Holder I'm sure. This is an interesting story though, the creepy old dude Republican Governor of Alabama Robert Bentley just appointed the Alabama AG to Jeff Sessions seat.
The Alabama AG that was supposed to be actively investigating him, and halted an inquiry into an impeachment probe over the Governor's mistress, general corruption and a whole interconnected network of bad smelling stuff.
For those that would like some context:
A surprising divorce
On Aug. 28, 2015 just hours after a joint appearance in Montgomery, Mrs. Bentley filed for divorce from her husband, saying the marriage had "suffered an irretrievable breakdown." The couple, both 72, were married in 1965 and have four children.
The divorce filing stated the couple had been living apart since January 2015.
The filing shocked many around the state. A little more than a month before the First Lady filed - seven months after their alleged separation -the governor tweeted the couple's wedding photo with the words "happy anniversary Dianne!"
However, a source close to the Bentley's Jan. 19 inauguration said tensions between the couple were so great that the First Lady's appearance in Montgomery was uncertain until the last minute. Bentley later said he was unaware his wife was filing for divorce.
Rumors surface
Shortly after the divorce filing, allegations surfaced that Bentley was having an affair with his long-time staffer Rebekah Caldwell Mason.
Mason, a married Haleyville native who once competed in Miss Alabama, had worked for Bentley during his first gubernatorial campaign. Mason served as Bentley's campaign press secretary during his 2010 campaign for governor and later served as his administration's Communications Director.
Mason's husband, Jon Mason, joined Bentley's administration as the director of the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives. Rebekah Mason left her job as communications director in 2013 to become spokesperson for Bentley's reelection campaign. Her company, RCM Communications, also provided work for the campaign, receiving $426,978 for consulting and polling work.
Got all that? Stinks right?
But back to the Senate appointment:
The appointment comes two months after Strange asked an Alabama House committee to pause an impeachment probe of Bentley, who was accused last year of having an affair with a onetime top political adviser. Strange said at the time that his office was doing "related work" though he never publicly elaborated on what it involved or when the work would be completed.
Guess who gets to pick his replacement too? If you said the Governor, who is under investigation. YOU WIN!
Seriously, there was talk of this dude having to resign a few months ago... Now he's practically made in the shade.
Oh yeah, did I mention that Alabama is a state under one party rule? Republicans have a super majority.
