So, how do we brand the new Republican health care plan? Is it Trumpcare? Ryancare? Or something else?
Why not call it GOPCare? That title makes it clear that the entire Republican Party owns this thing.
If it’s just Trumpcare, it becomes Trump’s creation. And when voters in their districts become angry, Republicans in Congress can say, this was Donald Trump’s idea… and you love the Donald, right?
Or alternatively: if it’s Ryancare, and voters in their districts become angry, Republicans in Congress can say, it was all Ryan’s fault, he’s just another in a string of failed Congressional leaders.
But if it’s called GOPCare, then it’s owned by ALL Republicans. Trump will own it, Republicans in Congress will own it. Even state level Republican politicians will own it. And they’ll all be made to answer for it. Even Republicans who voted against it will be called to explain how their fellow party members let this monster become law.
Meanwhile, Democrats can correctly say: this was their idea.
GOPCare: let’s put the albatross around all of their necks.
