I’ve had family visiting, two siblings and their spouses. It’s great to have them around (and my kitty Noble Fur agrees). We all get along fine, no drama. There is a down side to the fun, however. I’m supposed to have this diary ready Tuesday night, and here it’s pushing midnight and I’m just starting.
With the wild weather hitting much of the country right now, it was going to be one of the topics of discussion anyway. I’ve decided to run with it, and make it the primary topic.
Where I live in central Georgia, it appeared that winter was long gone. Day after day featured warm afternoons and mild nights. Flowers were blooming far ahead of schedule. Lawns were turning green. On the final day of February, I stepped out my front door to see a tiger swallowtail flitting around the azalea flowers. The butterfly cooperated with me, giving me sufficient time to go back indoors to grab my camera.
At the end of last week, about the time my sister and brother-in-law flew in from Reno, the weather turned sharply colder. We spent a day in the southern Appalachians, hiking in the hills as the occasional snowflake swirled through the air. That night, some significant snow hit the higher elevations. In a normal year, snow in the Appalachians in March is not exactly a big deal. This year, the abrupt change from warmth made it a big deal.
Now, as the second storm system churns northeastward, winter weather is a Very Big Deal. Where I live, there won’t be any snow, but a low of 24 is expected. That’ll do wonders for the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival.
Let’s hear your stories, especially if you were in the path of the heavy snow. Feel free to insert your thoughts about climate change.
