Many times I find myself wondering in big crowds. It might be a rally, a concert, a march, or a stroll in a populated city. I often wonder how we all feel comfort in being swallowed by a sea of humanity and deep isolation at the same time.
A protester with a large colorful sign stood there defiantly demanding our attention. I strolled past and glanced at the ground. There was something more profoundly engrossing my attention.
It wasn't a large or colorful sign, but a nametag. In the place of a name under the printed “I Am” was written "Nobody.”
How often do we feel like that? How many of us are there? We are collectively trying to not be invisible. Keeping quiet and conforming made us feel nonexistent.
How perfect that nametag said what most of us feel in a non-representative society. The biggest signs, the loudest mouths, the fattest wallets don't get to the most important part of giving. Giving is allowing others’ voices. This begins the most powerful act of understanding.
I want others to know, when you think you can't because it is too hard or you feel you are nobody, I am just like you. I will not let those self-doubts corrode the best part of my journey in life. I am no better or worse than the next person and I am still here.
Success and failure molds you but they don't define you.
You are a work in progress everyday.
We together make a very significant somebody.
