We will not be bullied.
Seattle and Washington State as a whole has been very clear. While we will not obstruct enforcement by federal agencies It is not our job to enforce federal law and we have great Constitutional latitude in that decision.
We have also been very clear that we while we will report immigrants with outstanding criminal warrants who are dangerous to the community we will not enquire of immigration status during routine policing. We will not routinely report the release of immigrants from custody rising from state and local law enforcement. We will not report immigration status of those seeking or participating in social programs or other government services.
We will protect the community but we will not spend community resources to enforce federal laws and regulations. King County Sheriff Dave Reichert and Governor Jay Inslee have expressed similar policies. Olympia is also a sanctuary city as well and I’ll be emailing our city council and ask them to join the suit.
The possible $10 million loss in grants to the Seattle Police is largely a token amount that consists mostly of logistical support like excess federal equipment. The North West is culturally and racially welcoming and the vitally of the economic engine that powers the NW depends is diversity.
Seattle leads the nation as a $15 an hour city and has the 3rd fastest growing property increase in the country. At $80,000 a year Seattle bests the national median wage by $24,000 a year. WA State embraced Expanded Medicaid from day one and had the first state exchange up in running in the nation. As a whole the state went to $13.50 per hour Jan 1 and rather than stuttering the economy shrugged it off without a blink. There are more construction cranes employed in Seattle than any other city in the country building an additional 6000 rental units.
Washington has led the the fight against the travel ban and works are also already in progress to throw sand in the anti-climate gears.

"Apparently the Trump administration, their war on facts has now become a war on cities," Murray said during a news conference. "Let me be clear about the facts. We are not breaking any laws and we are prioritizing safety."
Under the order, Seattle could face at least $10.5 million in cuts to public safety programs, he said.
Trump's order violates the constitution by trying to make local law enforcement enforce federal immigration law, Murray said.
The order also makes communities less safe by forcing people underground, said City Attorney Pete Holmes.
We will not be bullied. See you in the 9th Circuit again Mr. president. How has that gone so far?
