It’s been a while since I wrote anything about the subject of cannabis. Here I go again. One reason I decided to write about this subject yet again is due to Jeff Sessions’ retro-crap regarding cannabis. He’s been claiming all the old Shinola from the 1980’s. Marijuana is the cause of violence in urban areas (he’s really got a fixation with Chicago for some reason. I suppose it’s because Trump does.) It’s the gateway to heroin he says. It’s causing deaths left and right he claims.
Well, he’s wrong on all counts. He wants to bring back the drug wars so he can put people of color and hippies into for-profit prisons. At a Senate drug hearing this past April, he claimed that there's been a 20% increase in traffic-related deaths caused by marijuana in states that have medical and recreational cannabis. This is a 100% made-up bald-faced lie.
Jeff is of the ilk of politicians that has no problem lying to scare folks for the purpose of having control. I wish that was actually illegal for politicians and those in the administration to do. A mistake is one thing, but a blatant lie to cause a change in policy that will affect potentially millions of people should be illegal. Well, that’s what I think which is worth those two pennies in the bottom of your pants pocket hidden underneath the lint in that very pocket.
Fortunately, the director of Homeland Security, John Kelly, says marijuana is not a real problem. He says heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine are. But he also is the one trying to get the “Muslim Ban” through and says, “Trump critics need to shut-up,” and, “ We are under attack from people who hate us, hate our freedoms, hate our laws, hate our values, hate the way we simply live our lives."
There is such a thing as science, in case you wondered (you don’t). There is such a thing as facts, in case you didn’t know (you do). There are such things as studies, in case you also didn’t know (yes, they exist as well).
Medical marijuana has been legal in California for 21 years now. There has been enough time and enough studies to prove Jeff Sessions is talking out of the only other orifice of the body that makes noise, other than one’s mouth.
According to a new study published online in the American Journal of Public Health in November by a team of nine researchers, a surprising trend emerged in medical marijuana legal states.
After the team of researchers reviewed U.S. traffic fatalities between 1985 and 2014 using the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, the data showed that, on average, medical marijuana legal states had lower traffic fatality rates than non-medical marijuana legal states. This paralleled a 2013 study from three researchers that was published in the Journal of Law and Economics, which showed an 8% to 11% decline in traffic fatalities in the year immediately following the legalization of marijuana.
"Medical marijuana laws were associated with immediate reductions in traffic fatalities in those aged 15 to 24 and 25 to 44 years, and with additional yearly gradual reductions in those aged 25 to 44 years. However, state-specific results showed that only seven states experienced post-MML (medical marijuana legal) reductions. Dispensaries were also associated with traffic fatality reductions in those aged 25 to 44 years."
For instance, both California and New Mexico saw their traffic deaths fall by 16% and 17%, respectively, immediately following the passage of medical marijuana laws in the states. www.fool.com/...
I feel the need to put the truth out there when confronted with lies. Jeff Sessions is a liar about this.

Moving on...
A thing I’m into knowing is just what dose is in an edible cannabis product. Seems smart, and why not. I was visiting Colorado about a month ago where they have it all dialed in. Every edible product has the exact milligrams of THC per piece. In Colorado, it’s 10 milligrams per piece of candy, for instance. This makes it very easy to know what you’re doing. For most folks, 10 milligrams is about right. For me, 20 milligrams is sublime. The current cost in Colorado for recreational cannabis is $2.40 per 10 milligrams including all the taxes which really helps the bottom line for the state.
Personally, I want to know what I’m doing when I make edibles. First off, cannabis won’t do a thing for you when it’s raw. If you were to consume a fresh bud, nothing would happen. You have to decarboxylate it first. That’s a chemistry term which has to do with transferring electrons from one thing to another. When it comes to cannabis, what it means is causing THCA (inert) to become THC delta (the form that does something) by the release of CO2. If you smoke cannabis, this conversion happens from the fire. If you put cannabis in brownie mix, the heat of cooking it does the trick.
If you want to make an oil, tincture or butter with activated cannabis so you can then cook with it or make edibles, you have to decarboxylate it first. The standard method is to put it on a cookie sheet in an oven at 240 degrees for 20-40 minutes. That’s quite a variable in time and ovens are notorious for not being calibrated well. On top of that, most ovens have unequal heat in different areas. This whole thing is kinda hit and miss.
Research shows that to get 100% of THC to become activated, you have to keep it in an oven for 60 minutes at 240 degrees. However, the longer you heat it up, the more THC gets lost and the more CBN gets activated (that is the component used for seizures and pain). In fact, about 30% of the THC gets lost by the time 100% of THC on your cookie sheet gets activated. That’s not the greatest tradeoff.
For the best compromise → 40 minutes at 240 degrees is considered to be the best way to go. The best research done comes from Russia (why Russia?). Look at the chart below. It shows different temperatures cannabis was subjected to on heated glass and the resulting activated THC over time.
What is obvious is that at temps lower than 201 degrees result in very little conversion after even an hour. At 293 degrees, the process peaks at 7 minutes, but right after that, the conversion rate slows down and you lose some of the already converted THC. At 252 degrees, the process peaks at 27 minutes.
This chart shows us that 240 degrees for 40 minutes is probably just about right...250 degrees for 30 minutes would do as well, however, your cannabis does start to burn and smoke at 250 for that long, so 240 degrees is really the maximum heat to use.
Another thing that is apparent from this chart is they had to be using some pretty potent cannabis to get 15 mg of THC from every gram of cannabis.
There is more info to be gotten out of this graph as well. What if you wanted to have a more sedative effect than a psychoactive effect? At about 70% decarboxylation THC starts converting into CBN at a faster rate than it’s converting THCA into THC. This is the point where you start losing the psychoactive potentized THC and CBN production begins to rise. The medication is becoming more sedative. skunkpharmresearch.com/...
What if you wanted no guessing and no waste? What if you wanted to get 100% of decarboxylated cannabis without the loss of potentized THC? What if you are serious about being sure? Well, there is something for you and I’m certain there will be more of these products in the future.
It’s called an Ardent Nova decarboxylator. It is designed to make the process as easy as possible and to get the maximum potentized THC. It seems like a great way to go, IMO. FYI, I’m not endorsing this. I just want to fully know what I’m up to and know what’s available towards that purpose for precision.
The woman in this youtube video is the owner (and a lawyer for what that’s worth). BTW, I’ve been a cannabis advocate since 1970 (literally Nov 4, 1970. I’d turned 14 years old just seven days before I had my first experience.)
When you have decarboxylated your green, if you want edibles or topicals, you need to make cannabis butter, oil or tincture to start with. The Magic Butter machine makes that next step automatic (I use it and it’s awesome for automatic hassle-free ways to make butter, oil, and tinctures. I’ll post two videos about how easy it is to make a couple of these.)
